You should carefully disassemble your bicycle before starting to paint it. Be sure to remove any hardware or attachments that are difficult to remove. Once you're done, tape off the parts you're not working on, and pack them away in a bag or plastic container. You should also label them so you can easily find them later on. Once you're sure your bike frame is clean, you can use sandpaper to remove any old paint. Some paints cannot be sanded away with sandpaper, and may need to be removed chemically. If you can't find this product, you can use glass cleaner or white spirits.

To start bike painting, prepare a work space. Ideally, you'll paint the bike outside, but you can paint it inside too. To avoid paint fumes, open a window and keep the temperature of the room at a comfortable level. After the first coat, leave the bike in the garage for at least half an hour. Then, apply the final coat and let it dry for several hours. Then, you're ready to ride!
