What You Need To Know About Your Bicycle Frame

A bicycle frame is usually the single most important part of a bicycle, to which other parts and wheels are attached. The most popular and standard frame style for an upright bike is shaped around the stays, which sit on top of the front wheel. This is called the diamond frame.

Other popular frames include the three-poster, the half-tube, and the racer frames. Each has its own particular advantage, which is different from one another depending on how you plan to use your bicycle. For instance, half-tube frames have small front triangles with narrow front ends, while the tri-fold has wider front triangles with narrow back ends, but also shorter and closer to the ground. And the racer frame, which is the widest of all, has wide front triangles, narrow back ends, but short as compared to the other two. When you choose which frame style to use, it is best to get advice from an experienced biker.

There are also two types of bicycle frames for touring bikes. Folding bike frames are made to fit lightweight touring bikes, such as those used during cross-country trips. These are very durable, but they are also rather fragile because they are not designed to handle very vigorous or harsh conditions, such as bumps, thumps, and potholes. On the other hand, hard-front-touring bikes are built to be used under more rigorous conditions, such as mountain biking and downhill mountain biking. It is important to note that hard-front bikes are not as easy to fold and transport as folding bikes.

Steel is a good material to use for bicycle frames because of its durability and its aesthetic value. However, many cyclists shy away from steel because of its tendency to bend when exposed to sharp objects like rocks. If you are going on long road trips, then you would do well to opt for aluminum. Aluminum is lightweight compared to steel, yet it is still very strong. On the downside, aluminum can rust if exposed to water.

Bicycle frame geometry is important to the quality of your ride. The way a frame lays over the top of your head tube is called the saddle tube angle. Some manufacturers allow you to adjust this angle, which is why some bikes have a longer top tube. Others have shorter angles, while still others can be adjustable. Saddle tube angles can be adjusted by adding or removing flatter or thicker parts between the front tire and the head tube, or by making adjustments to the length of the bike's wheel rims.

There are many factors that affect how a bicycle frame feels in your hands. All in all, it comes down to personal preference. Some people find that on a bike with a traditional seat they can feel a lot more comfortable. Other riders, however, enjoy a better fit while others prefer the ease of quick adjustments.
